Five Auckland Trail Treasures

One of the best things about living in Auckland is being able to run or walk in different beautiful environments. Auckland is full of epic tracks and trails so why not give one a go? Trails mix up your training, which is great for the body.

Here are a few that we suggest. Before heading out, please ensure their suitability to you.

1. Shakespeare Regional Park

Shakespeare Regional Park has a range of trails that can be run or walked. The trails are all different distances and finish at a beautiful white sandy beach.

2. Te Henga Walk Way

This is a tough trail, but it has epic views! You can access the trail either from Muriwai or Bethells Beach.

3. Long Bay Coastal Track

Another challenging track, but the views make it all worthwhile. The track has been re-done in recent years, so is a lot more user-friendly than it was previously.

The trail does take you past Pohutukaka Bay, which has a reputation as a place to take a very natural swim!

4. Rangitoto Island

Rangitoto is a bucket list location for any Aucklander or visitor to the region!

You can run or walk around the entire base, for a distance of 20km, or do the summit walk which is around 2 hours return. The views at the summit are 360 degrees, taking in Auckland City and the Hauraki Gulf. On a clear day, it is pretty stunning!

5. Pukekohe Five Summits Trail

This is a 21km trail that starts and finishes at the Pukekohe Train Station. A great track with rolling hills and rural scenery. If preparing for a 1/2 marathon this would be an ideal trail to include for a little variation.
